Welcome to Step by Step Parenting!

At the very end of 2019, just a few weeks shy of my twentieth birthday, my world changed forever when I found out that I was pregnant. Three years later, I went through a divorce and found myself navigating life as a single mom. By the time I was twenty-five, I was a mom and stepmom to a total of three kids, and pregnant with twins.

Through all of it—pregnancy, young motherhood, divorce, remarriage, blending a family, and growing that family even more—I often felt alone. I didn’t know anyone that had been through anything similar. There was no What to Expect When You’re Blending Your Family or What to Expect When You’re Trying to Co-Parent. Social media and the Internet were riddled with horror stories and worst-case-scenarios. I couldn’t find what I was really looking for: an honest yet supportive resource for other parents like me, just trying their best.

That’s why I rebranded my blog to Step by Step Parenting. A blog that was previously for documenting my adventures around the Hawaiian islands during my early college years is now a space for vulnerable conversations about motherhood, parenting, blended families, being a working mom, and everything in between. Whether you’re a new parent, a stepparent, or just trying to find your footing, you’re not alone here.

And if there’s anything I’ve learned these past seven years, it’s this: the only way to learn how to parent, co-parent, or stepparent is step by step.

My Story

Hello! My name is Megan Eldredge and I am a mom, law student, and writer. I was born in Chicago and spent a few years in New Jersey and Hawaii, but I now call North Carolina home and have lived here for over fifteen years.

I originally started this blog in 2017, right before I began college at Brigham Young University–Hawaii, as a way to document my adventures around the islands. Since then, life has taken me in directions I never expected. I transferred colleges to be closer to family while balancing motherhood and school, and in 2024, graduated from UNC–Greensboro with degrees in English and International & Global Studies. Later that same year, I started law school at Elon University, and I am currently set to graduate in December 2026. Law school is challenging, but I’m loving the journey—most days!

In my personal life, I’m married to my best friend, Kevin. It’s hard to believe our first date was over three years ago and that we’ve been married a year already! Before I started law school, we both trained for and ran trail ultramarathons, but these days, we’ve traded in the long training runs for shorter runs, family hikes, and evenings at home curled up with a good book (after the kids’ bedtimes, of course). When I’m not studying, I love spending time with friends and family, writing, and chasing after our energetic bichapoo, Ginger.

Together, we’re raising five amazing kids: my stepdaughter, K (8yo); my daughter, Eloisa (5yo); my stepson, T (5yo — just five months younger than Eloisa); and our twins, Emersyn and Evelyn, who were born in late February of this year.
